Connexity — Supply chain analysis tool

This large financial analysis system quantifies business relationships between thousands of companies worldwide, assisting investors in making better capital investment decisions. Built by Sibers team, in 2011 it was acquired by Bloomberg.

The system’s functionality:

• Since the major sources of public companies’ financial information are quarterlies, semi-annuals and annuals, the process of retrieving and parsing these documents was automated primarily.
• Besides public and structured, there is also a great amount of unstructured financial data, which leaks out here and there in press releases, announcements and news. Sibers team has as well developed a tool, which aggregates and stores financial news by market sector, company name, etc.
• A separate tool was built for the project’s owner use only. It quantifies relationships between companies and allows manual values entry and change. The analyst then writes a report on a chosen industry sector, based on the quantified values, and the system sends it to the subscribers.
• The fourth part built is a Java-application. Clean and beautiful, it visualises current relationships between companies and allows the user to conduct his own analytical reports and read ones, written by the expert. Within the application the user could also create a virtual investment profile, or several — one for each chosen industry, containing virtual money, to experience paper trading.
