Hero Trainer — Fitness App for Gamers

Hero Trainer is a unique iOS and Android fitness app tailored for gamers, designed to encourage a healthier lifestyle. It allows users to track their daily steps using the default health app on their smartphones, eliminating the need for smartwatches. By walking daily, users can discover “runes” to upgrade their in-app heroes, complete quests, and compete with other players for real-life rewards, such as gift cards for Steam, Xbox, and more.

The mobile component of Hero Trainer is developed using React Native, while the backend is powered by Python. Our primary responsibility in this project was to enhance the app’s overall performance by improving its stability and security.

To manage an increasing user base, our team revamped the deployment schema. We undertook significant refactoring of the step counter module on the frontend to eliminate bugs and enhance its functionality. Additionally, we upgraded the server’s configuration to utilize AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), ensuring more robust and scalable application performance.
