Indoor Micro Positioning Technology — Accurate Positioning for Smartphones

Public indoor environments such as malls, airports, and sports arenas are in a blind spot today. GPS satellite signals cannot penetrate their walls and currently deployed location solutions such as cell triangulation and outdoor Wi-Fi databases have 50-100+ meter error rates that limit their effectiveness. Sibers developed a service for our customer that provide accurate positioning for smartphones and other portable devices in indoor spaces.

The first application allows you to create a database of “fingerprints” of wireless signals throughout any venue that is part of the system. This involves walking around the location and scanning wireless signal data. This app is for a person A person who configures a Wi-Fi in the building for users.

The second application use a combination of radio frequency and sensor data from a user’s phone to determine a location within a venue by comparing against our fingerprint database. This app is for end users that want to know were Wi-Fi zones are situated nearby.

Sibers developed the whole system that consists of a web system for administrators’ access, two iOS applications, two Android applications and a server-side for it.
