Pro Angler — The #1 Ranked Fishing App

Pro Angler is a popular fishing app which allows its users to benefit from loads of tips and insights authored by local pro anglers from US, UK and Australia.

The app provides users with the most accurate real-time marine weather and tide times, and navigates them through GPS hotspots and artificial reefs. It also shares top fishing locations, suggestions on when the best time to fish for a specific specie is, a comprehensive species guide, and even a recipe book with nutritional values.

Sibers team has built the server-side of the app in PHP, including custom CMS, which allows to easily update the content of the app. There was also developed a WordPress plugin allowing to upload captains’ reports to the database using the dashboard of the promo website. Once uploaded, the reports become available on the website as well as on the mobile app.

Having been working on this app for about 8 years by now, we’ve implemented a bunch of new features, added a social aspect (users can follow each other, post their catches, get rewards, get push notifications about the events), privacy settings, expanded the territory of covering and a lot more.

A lot of work was done on server-side:

• We fixed (and continue to fix) all the concerning issues;
• We fixed the problem with displaying moon rises and moonsets. We tried to get right values for moon phases, displaying conditions and implemented new formulas for calculating right time when the moon rises and sets;
• We wrote a script for migrating images from old storage to Amazon S3 bucket;
• We helped to save client’s money charged by Google services;
• We optimized the data and the cache.

We continue to maintain and update the application and are happy to be part of such beautiful project.
